Robespierre's last thoughts
Robespierre's jaw ached, the pain invaded his mind, confusing his thoughts and preventing his eyes from seeing clearly; the room around him was only a blurred shape, where the candles' light stood out against the greyish background. It was late night when he and his friends were carried there from the Hotel de Ville, and the sun wasn't still risen.
He was nearly unconscious when the soldiers had carried him into the room, the wound on his jaw had made him loose his clarity of thoughts, but now, in spite of the terrible pain, he was able to structure coherent ideas.
